News & Notices
December 2007
- December 31, 2007 This morning we are noticing problems
upstream from us. There is no problem in the Midcoast.com network, but
rather where various providers connect together in Portland/Boston. I
have contacted those in charge at that locations and they are aware of
the problem and are working on it.
- December 21, 2007 We have installed a powerful new mail
server. This replaces three of the six existing email servers for
midcoast.com. This should provide quicker email delivery and slightly
better spam detection.
- December 20, 2007 We are having a problem with the Islesboro
dark harbor repeater this morning. This has been fixed at 11:55am.
- December 19, 2007 There was some times of brief slow speeds
for users who utilize Ragged Mountain. The problem has been found and
corrected.
- December 18, 2007 One of the access points at Ragged Mountain
is out of service. We have a team on the way up the mountain to diagnose
the problem.
They will also be upgrading the battery backup system
at Ragged. This was cause a short outage for people depending on Ragged. We
will then have enough backup power to outlast most longer outages.
- December 17, 2007 One of the access points at Benner Hill was
misbehaving over the weekend and this morning. This was taken out of
service and the affected customers were programmed to use a backup
access point at the same site. These customers were in Rockland and Owls
Head.
- December 16, 2007 The router at Barret Hill failed today. I
went up in the snowstorm and installed a replacement. As of 2:15pm, the
new router is installed, configured and working properly.
- December 10, 2007 Some users over the weekend had trouble
loading parts of some common websites. This was traced to a problem with
routing to the Akamai servers we use. We also had to reboot our main
router, which caused an outage of a couple minutes. The correction of
these routing problems (about 11:30am) have fixed the problem.
Update Dec 12, 2007 4:50pm. Another problem relating to getting
to the Akamai servers was resolved at this time.
- December 7, 2007 8am. Belfast users are out of service today
as the internet feed from Belfast to Rockland is having trouble. We have
dispatched crews to try and fix the problem. Update: 1:41pm A
problem was found and fixed at the Verizon central office in Belfast.
All is normal again.
- December 6, 2007 Matinicus wireless users are working
normally again. We have installed a new wireless system for better speed
and performance. Wireless customers who have service through Matinicus
are now capable of getting our Digital Phone Service.
- December 5 2007 Tidewater area DSL users are experiencing
slow speeds this morning. We have narrowed down the problem and are
working on fixing it. 11:20am. The problem is with a radio system at
Benner Hill. The DSL system had been moved over to a backup radio system
while we replace the problem item at Benner Hill.
- December 3, 2007 Matinicus wireless customer have been having
some problems over the last few days. We are awaiting parts to repair
the issue. Once this repair is completed, this system will also have
greater speed as well as be capable of handling our Digital Phone
